Methods of Bidding

In Person
The most popular way for buyers to participate in our auctions.  We love to see bidders in person at our auction and this remains the best way for buyers to get involved and enjoy the bidding process.  By bidding in person you have a distinct advantage of talking to the auctioneer, touching and seeing the item that you are interested in, and getting a sense of the room.

Telephone Bidding
Bidding by phone brings you as close to the auction as possible without attending the event.  Your bids will be taken verbally over the phone and handled by one of our friendly auction staff who will communicate your bids in person to the auctioneer.  You will need to register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the auction to qualify to bid by telephone.  Please contact Sarah Isherwood at 401-475-8785 or to arrange your telephone bid.  For a downloadable form, please click here.

Absentee / Left Bid
This is a method of bidding for those who cannot or do not wish to attend an auction. You simply leave the maximum price in writing that you are prepared to bid, and this information is passed to the auctioneer.  This form of bidding gives our auctioneer permission to bid as a proxy for you, starting at the lowest possible selling price.  He will bid on your behalf as long as there is competition, up to the maximum designated amount.  Please contact Sarah Isherwood at 401-475-8785 or, at least 24 hours prior to start of the auction to arrange a left bid.  For a downloadable form, please click here.

Bid Live Online
In the event that you are unable to attend our live auction in person, we offer the two most respected online bidding options available: and  You will be able to view the items in our online catalog at least two weeks prior to the auction event. Follow the links on our calendar as well as our upcoming auctions page.

Please ensure that you are qualified to bid by registering as early as possible.  We cannot guarantee approval if you register after 7pm EST the night before the auction.


Circa Auction Gallery accepts the following forms of payment:

1. Cash
Payment in cash in person on the day of the auction. 

2. Check
Checks (personal, certified, cashiers and travelers) payable to “Circa Auction Gallery, LLC” will be accepted with prior approval, please email Sarah for more information.

3. Money Order
U.S. money orders payable to “Circa Auction Gallery, LLC” will be accepted.

4. Bank Wire Transfer
We offer direct bank-to-bank wire transfers for large transactions. Please note that there is a $25.00 service fee for any international bank wire transfer. Please contact Sarah for more information.

5. Credit Card
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Credit & Debit cards can be processed in person day on the day of the auction or via telephone. 

There is a 20% buyers’ premium added to the hammer price of all items sold.  

Buyer’s Premium & Sales Tax


Buyer’s Premium
There is a 20% charge (Buyer’s Premium) added to the hammer price on all items sold. Please note that if you are bidding using or, the total buyer's premium will be 25%.

Sales Tax
Please note, Rhode Island does have a 7% sales tax. If you are tax exempt, please bring your resale certificate to the auction.
